You need help to turn your health around - call to learn about TLC programs.
For centuries these physicians taught and supported their patients in Yang Sheng Dao, meaning The Way of Nurturing Life. Consequently, cultures have embraced the undeniable value of nourishing food, physical activity, rest, expressing emotions and avoiding known toxins. What held true then, holds true today. When we are encouraged, time and again, to eat right, exercise, get a good night of sleep, reduce stress, and avoid processed food, it is advice rooted in generations of wisdom.
“National clinical guidelines recommend therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC) as a standard of care in the management of cardiovascular disease risk factors.”
-American College of Cardiology 2004
What is TLC?
TLC means Therapeutic Lifestyle Choices/Changes. It is a modern term that describes exactly the practice of Yang Sheng Dao of Chinese Medicine. TLC means making choices everyday that will enhance health and help prevent disease.
Quality foods, gentle movement/exercise, restorative sleep, avoidance of toxins, and stress management are all significantly in our personal and daily control.
Modern scientific research, confirming centuries of Traditional Chinese Medicine's wisdom, now demonstrates that many chronic diseases are largely caused by lifestyle choices and habits.
A therapeutic lifestyle program is now recommended by the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH) and other leading health organizations as a primary therapy for individuals with chronic disease such as heart disease, elevated triglycerides and/or cholesterol, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome, plus many other conditions.
How do I get help with making TLC's?
Transition To Health specializes in therapeutic lifestyle education and treatment. One-on-one counseling for diet and exercise is combined with gentle detoxification, acupuncture, and microcurrent therapies for metabolic imbalance and stress reduction. When warranted, nutritional and herbal supplementation is prescribed.
Debi Weiss, LAc., R.N. has studied, trained and certified as a healthcare provider and educator for both Metagenics FirstLine Therapy and The Schwarzbein Principle by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, M.D.
The Health and TLC Assessment
This 75 minute appointment includes a thorough intake of your lifestyle and health concerns, a BIA to assess body composition, and recommendations directed toward achieving your health goals.
Patients find The Health and TLC Assessment a valuable first step in understanding their state of health, identifying current habits that work for or against their health goals, and knowing more clearly their readiness to make lifestyle changes.
The Ideal Weight Lifestyle program
Body composition, as measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) serves as the foundation for all recommended therapeutic lifestyle changes. The Ideal Weight Lifestyle program consists of 12 weekly 75 minute appointments for acupuncture, detoxification and microcurrent treatment, dietary guidance, exercise modification, and stress management.
The success of the Ideal Weight Lifestyle Program is the unique microcurrent therapy and the individual one-on-one professional support provided during this process of change. Education is paramount. Learning how our body functions is key to understanding both health and disease. Each week of the Ideal Weight Lifestyle program introduces a topic and lifestyle change which builds upon the previous week.
While there is a structure and rhythm to the program, the weekly sequence is always followed at the pace appropriate for each individual. After completing the 12 week program, most participants return for monthly support and treatment, or quarterly ‘tune-ups’ as food and exercise habits adjust to the seasonal changes.
3,000 years ago, a comprehensive system of self-care was developed in China. These methods, the Yang Sheng Dao, were designed to nurture health and vitality through nutrition, personal hygiene, and attentive daily care to the body.
However, the value of Yang Sheng Dao is greater today than it was in Ancient China. Annually, the average American consumes:
•124 pounds of more than 3,000 food chemicals, additives, synthetic preservatives, and colors.
•Over 130 pounds of refined sugar, in contrast to the 5 pounds our relatives ate 100 years ago.
•53 gallons of carbonated soda, which is dangerously acidic and totally devoid of nutritional value.
Consider that the average apple is sprayed 17 times before it is brought to market.
While the human body is designed to cleanse itself of the normal dregs of digestion and metabolism, it is profoundly strained to cope with endless toxic assault from chemical preservatives, pesticides, pharmaceutical drugs, adulterated foods, and the stress of a modern lifestyle.
The toxicity and resulting internal imbalance is a major cause of weight gain, poor health, chronic disease, and degeneration. Common symptoms of toxin buildup include chronic pain, headaches, and fatigue.
Research documents connections between toxicity and asthma, allergies, skin disorders, chronic infections (immunological toxicity), imbalanced cognition, mood and mental functioning (neurological toxicity) and reproductive challenges, libido, metabolic rate, stress tolerance, glucose regulations, and other hormonal imbalances (endocrine toxicity).
At Transition To Health, we approach detoxification in a gentle, pragmatic manner. We employ a combination of herbal tinctures, homeopathy, clay foot baths, magnesium salts, rebounding exercise, microcurrent and acupuncture. Detoxification is a nutrient demanding process. We take it slow to allow the body to fully and efficiently excrete the dregs of 21st century living.
Curious about your own level of toxicity?
Click here to take The Metabolic Detoxification Questionnaire, also known as the Toxicity Questionnaire. It measures the degree to which your body may be affected by toxins. We invite you to take this quiz. Add up the numbers to arrive at a total for each section, and then add those totals to arrive at the grand total. Call Transition To Health for free interpretation and consultation.
“Doctors first, have to find the cause for an illness and determine which disharmony prevails. To balance this disharmony, the first and foremost measure is appropriate diet. It is not until this measure bears no result that one should use medicines.”
